For those of you who missed Journeys this last Sunday….here’s the handout info….Give us some feedback…..start some dialogue…How are you applying what you learned about your heart his week…?

Week 1: The Hidden Chamber

Matthew 15:18-19

But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ‘unclean.’ For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.

Proverbs 4:23

Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.

Discussion Part 1:

  1. How does it make you feel to think that the words that are “out-of-character” are actually accurate representations of the heart?
  2. How do we learn to modify our behavior and hide behind our filter in order to make life work?
  3. Why is it easier to focus on modifying the exterior instead of working on the interior?
  4. Why does simply changing your behavior not get to the core of the issue?
  5. How do the things that lurk in the heart end up bubbling up to the surface?
  6. Why is it important to understand the connection between your mouth and your heart?

Discussion Part 2:

  1. How well do you guard what goes in your heart?
  2. Why should you make guarding your heart a top priority?
  3. What are some of the excuses people give for not doing the hard work of changing their hearts?
  4. How well do you monitor what comes out of your heart? Have you noticed anything come out of your mouth this past week that points to a heart issue?
  5. How can you do a better job of guarding your heart this week?

Join us this Sunday as we approach our first monster…..Guilt…..
